Day 7 - Silence
Silence, to be sure, is the one form of worship which is almost universally thought of as being pretty intolerable by many Churchmen.
They think they will be heard because they speak a great deal. Organists, too, might be equally reluctant to let any priestly liturgical action pass by without a ruminative obbligato on the Swell manual.
Congregations are assailed, and often swamped, by a flood of incessant noise during a service which may well have begun with the singing of the chorus, "Be still, and know that I am God!"
Silence is a gift from God to help us to sense his other great everyday gift, the knowledge
of his presence with us.
