Day 10 - Secret Communion
It is quite as impossible to live and prosper spiritually without prayer as it is to live and prosper physically without food and an income of some kind. Those who enjoy a tight walk with God through life and have power with him in his kingdom are those who pray in secret.
Unless you are a spiritual person, you will be of little use to God; and to be spiritual, you must live a great deal in prayer. It is not those of us who are on our knees the most frequently or for the longest time that do the most praying. Some may pray more real prayer in one hour than others in two or three days.
Too many folk leave the door open. The sort of prayer that feeds the soul must be offered up with the door shut.
"But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." (Matthew 6:6).
God is in secret; he is hidden from the world. The world cannot see him, and they do not know him, either. You can never get close enough to God in your prayers unless you shut out the world.
Shutting the door means something very different than closing the door of your private room somewhere. You can go into that private room and close the door, and yet you can have taken the world in there with you. You have not closed the door in the true sense.
In the congregation of the Lord you must enter your closet when you pray, and shut the door behind you, or your prayers will dissolve in the air around you. You must talk from your heart to the heart of God. Those around and about you may hear your words, but they do not know the secret; the secret lies between your heart and the heart of God. You scarcely hear your own words falling out of your mouth; you know and hear more of the speaking of your heart. There is a blessing for you in praying in secret this way; There is a certain joy in it that cannot be shared with anyone.
This prayer allows your soul to feed on the divine life and lifts you up into the realms of light and happiness. Thank God for the sweet privilege of secret communion with him.
When you pray, enter into your closet, and be absolutely sure to close the door behind you.
