Day 4 - The Way To Heaven
There definitely is a heaven, a real place of healing rest, peace and joy. I have not yet been there, but I can safely say that not only does it exist but that a foretaste of it has come down to me, so I know that heaven is really there.
Many of us who have enjoyed coconut or pineapple have never been to a country where those fruits come from, but WE know that there has to be a country like that somewhere, because we have tasted its fruit. In the same way I know there is a heaven, because I taste its riches, in part, every day of my life.
Not only is there a real heaven, and an everlasting after-life within its walls, but we also have a way to get there. Everyone can go who wants to. Heaven is a holy place, and the way to get there is a holy way.
"And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness. The unclean will not journey on it; it will be for those who walk in that Way; wicked fools will not go about on it." Isaiah 35:8
So the Christian spends his life on earth on holy ground, in a holy place, a highway to heaven.
The writer to the saints at Ephesus says, "And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus." Ephesians 2:6
But in order to keep ourselves in a holy place, we have to live a holy and heavenly life. If we do not live a heavenly life on earth we will never live in heaven. Put another way, the holy and heavenly life on earth is the only lifestyle with a positive future to it. It is the only sort of earthly existence which ends in heaven. So it follows that the highway of holiness through this life is the way of peace and happiness. Holy happiness is an apt enough description for the true and right life of mankind.
Your one short stay on this planet of ours ought to be characterised by constant holiness and happiness. If these two are missing, then your life is not what it ought to be.
Christ has awarded us this privilege - to walk down the highway of life in peace and joy and in holiness. A life like this will eventually flow out into an eternal ocean of indescribable rapture.
So encourage your own soul to press upwards and on, down this high and holy way.
