The Order of Jacob's Well, "Daily Round"

A booklet of 'Celtic times of prayer, Morning, Daytime, Evening and Compline. It has been created by following the traditional practice of many a Celtic scribe, collecting together the prayers and texts which are useful for these beautiful Celtic aside times with Jesus.

Extract from Morning Prayer
Leader: - Lord, be with us this day,
Within us to purify us;
Above us to draw us up;
Beneath us to sustain us;
Before us to lead us;
Behind us to restrain us;
Around us to protect us.

O Lord, open our lips:
All: - And our mouths shall proclaim your praise.
Leader: - Glory to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
All: - As it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.


Extract from Daytime Prayer

BLESSINGS AND DISMISSAL
Leader: - We lay our burdens down,
All: - In the presence of the living God.
Leader: - You nourish us for our journey,
All: - In the presence of the living God.
Leader: - We take on the armour of Christ,
All: - In the presence of the living God.
Leader: - We take on the armour of Christ,
All: - In the presence of the living God.
Leader: - Now lead us, guide us, defend us
As we go into your Word (world),
In your name and for your sake.
All: - O loving, living God, Amen!


Extract from Evening Prayer
PRAYER FOR OTHERS
Leader: -

Let us hold before God in confidence..
The ones who laugh when we are funny,
And the ones who make us smile at ourselves.

The ones for whom we weep,
And the ones who, in joy or sorrow, weep for us.

The ones who worry that we may be lonely,
And the ones who ensure that it does not happen.

The ones who feed our minds and our bodies,
And the ones with whom we share faith and break bread.

The ones who reveal in themselves what is hidden,
And the ones who treat as precious all we confide in them.

The ones who, tonight, we want to pray for,
And the ones who, unasked, tonight will pray for us.

And let us praise God,
All: -

For the one from whom we are sent,
The one to whom we are summoned,
Whose image we are,
Whose flesh we share,
Whose love is all. Amen


Extract from Compline
Leader: -

Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit.
All: -

For you have redeemed us, Lord God of truth.

Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.

Lord, now you let your servant go in peace: your word has been fulfilled. My own eyes have seen the salvation: which you have prepared in the sight of every nation.

A light to reveal you to the nations: and the glory of your people Israel.

Bless our sleep, Lord God, and make it a continuation of our trustful prayer; so that even while we rest, our hearts may remain watchful, through Jesus, the Christ, our Lord.

May we do the will of God, sharing in the death of Christ, and rise in the light of heaven. May we rest safely this night, sleep in perfect peace, and rise with the morning light.

May the Father watch over our beds, Christ fill our dreams, and the angels guard our souls.
